SAN LEANDRO, CA: The City of San Leandro with the Rebuilding Together Oakland | East Bay is offering home repair grants of up to $5,000 for needed improvements including compliance with health and safety standards for need-based residents. The City is working with the nonprofit Rebuilding Together Oakland | East Bay to administer the Housing Rehabilitation Program. Rebuilding Together Oakland specializes in municipal housing rehabilitation program design and administration.
To participate, residents must be homeowners, reside in the home as a primary residence, and meet federal income requirements to be eligible for the program. Window repairs, insulation install, bathroom and kitchen improvements, and installation of handicapped accessibility features reflect some of the common upgrades available under program funding. The Housing Rehabilitation Program utilizes pre-certified general contractors who provide quality workmanship and materials to achieve the goal of a safe, sanitary, and decent home.
The Housing Rehabilitation Grant Program is funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Eligible applicants are typically funded on a first-come, first-serve basis, although priority may be given to applicants who face an urgent health or safety need.
Interested applicants can download the program application available online. Completed applications should be sent to Rebuilding Together Oakland | East Bay at 520 3rd Street, Suite 109, Oakland, CA, 94607. Rebuilding Together staff will review applications for eligibility.
